Formed in 2020, Chicago Road Brass is comprised of musicians that specialize in various disciplines of music from music performance to music education. The quintet specializes in all manner of genres including baroque, classical, and romantic, to modern impressionism and jazz.
The quintet regularly plays for church services, concerts, and recitals in addition to weddings and educational lectures. Many of our music titles have been arranged by our tuba player, Bernhard Kirchner, and the quintet also has many original compositions and transcriptions by various artists from Bach and Mozart to Queen and the Beatles!
The name "Chicago Road Brass" is a tribute to the main road that travels through Saline, Michigan. Constructed in 1926, the Chicago Road ran from Detroit, Michigan to Aberdeen, Washington. With the construction of the interstate system, the old Chicago Road lost some of its importance as the main means of transportation and has since been renamed US 12 or Michigan Avenue. However, to this day Michigan Avenue (US 12) still remains in use for local travel, unlike many of the other roads that have since been decommissioned due to the highly successful interstate system.
